Light on Life

True Nature

Marrakesh

18th - 25th May 2024 - Full moon May

"Our true nature is like a precious gem;

although it may be temporarily buried in mud,
it remains completely brilliant and unaffected.

We simply have to uncover it"

- Pema Choudron

The Retreat

A seven day rejuvenating retreat at Tigmi.Tigmi, originally built in 1840 and lovingly restored to what is today a beautiful boutique hotel nestled atop a tranquil berber village in the foothills of the Atlas mountains.

The word Tigmi means "My House",  so this retreat is really an opportunity to come home and relax back into ourselves,  to explore the magic of this incredible location whilst opening our hearts and cleansing and refreshing our minds.

A retreat offers the space to restore and take a pause,  to deepen and refresh our practice and make new connections to yourself,  to others and to nature.  It's a moment to breathe and settle back and recalibrate.

We will be blessed by the full moon in Sagittarius as the sun moves into Gemini.  As well as yoga,  the retreat is special in that it's directed through the teachings of the medicine wheel,  the medicines of nature and the elements.  This work I call the Altar of our lives is something i've written.  The retreat reveals itself and has a therapeutic impact, it is an opportunity to delve into self realization and recognise our true nature, to honour life and all the beauty that is there.

As well as our morning practice of meditation, pranayama and postures, some of our sunset sessions will be filled with yin yoga, meditation, mantra, journaling and clarity breathwork.  An inversion workshop for those of you who feel like it.  There will also be space for sharing, laughter, creativity, relaxing in the spa and traditional hammam visits to the Atlas mountains and marrakech as well as free time.

The retreat is open to all levels, you do what you can and enjoy.

The Venue

Our peaceful venue Tigmi is a unique gem, originally built in 1840, a beautiful restoration project lovingly restored. Riads using traditional Berber and Moroccan techniques and locally sourced materials and textiles to make it what it is today.  A beautiful traditional boutique hotel in the foothills of the Atlas mountains.  The fabrics you will see at Tigmi have all been weaved by Tigmis very own weaver .

Tigmi also hosts its own spa with traditional Hamman, YES a HAMMAN !!!  Pool and steam as well as a large outdoor pool.  Relaxing massages, body and hair masks, exfoliation treatments.  Traditional treatments can be received from the residential therapist.  The spa uses traditional Moroccan skin care recipes sourcing from local and natural ingredients, such as herbs, fruits and oils.  Morocco is famous for its rich in vitamin E Argan oil as well as its traditional fruit soap scrub.

Tigmi is no ordinary hotel, meandering corridors and courtyard paths lead to 24 authentically furnished comfortable rooms, you can enjoy plunge pools, secret terraces, charming gardens in bloom and a myriad of quiet corners to relax and recharge.  Sunset and sunrise from our rooftop shala with views across the snow capped mountains of the Atlas and the twinkle of the Marrakesh city in the far off distance.

Yoga can also be done in the indoor shala if it's chilly, yet in May the weather is warm and pleasant and great for lounging by the pool drinking mint tea.  At night time the temperatures drop a little so bring a jumper and light your real fire in every room.

There will be time to explore the Atlas mountains and the Toubkal National park, a camel ride if you wish or just simple walks in nature.  There will be time to explore the souks of Marrakech should you like to do a bit of shopping and sightseeing with art galleries, Yve saint Laurent'S house and garden.  There is a free minibus three times a day for guests who want to explore Marrakech or just rest and retreat and do nothing.

Majd our host speaks perfect English and can help to arrange all your requirements such as trips to the city, food requirements and all of your needs to ensure your stay is the best.  The venue is in GMT should you need to do a little bit of work,  yet a digital detox is encouraged.

Accomodation

Tigmis 24 en suite rooms can be divided into rooms, suites and Riads.  Decorated in locally weaved fabrics and handcrafted furnishings.  There is an open fireplace in each room or separate sitting room adjacent to your room.  The accommodations are intimate and quirky built to conserve the ecosystem and blend with the nature of the environment.

Each of your en suite bathrooms is stocked with luxurious shampoos and natural body products.  The beds are turned down daily and there is a safe should you require to stash valuables.

Some of the rooms are located in the oldest part of the buildings and open onto the pool, perfect for early morning swimmers.

Should you wish to come with your group, suites and Riads house 4 to 8 people, towered and terraced.  The Riad has its own gated courtyard and its own tower.

All the rooms, terraces and courtyards are surrounded by Tigmis.  Stunning gardens filled with delicate flowers, roses, hibiscus and bougainvillea and beautiful aromas.  There is plenty of shaded nooks to relax in and plenty of sunny areas to rest in by the two pools or plunge pools.

The second of Tigmis pools is found in a secluded walled garden and fully heated all year round to 26 degrees.

The Yoga

We will spend the mornings and sunset sessions exploring mediation, pranayama, asana, yoga philosophy and non dual tantra.  The yoga is suitable for all levels, we come as we are and we do what we can.  You are asked to attend all the yoga sessions, especially the mornings. However, if you have an injury and really need time to rest or you want a longer hike some day or just space there will be opportunity to skip a couple of the evening sessions.  One of the days we will have a whole day free after the morning practice and an openness to finding the right rhythm for our group.

Morning practice:

- Meditation and pranayama

- 15 mins - tea break

- Morning yoga practice .

Afterwards you are free until

Evening practice:

We will explore Yin Yoga, Mantra, Journaling, Sharing, Clarity breathwork, Satsang, Inversions and Yoga Nidra.

The benefits, anatomy and esoteric anatomy are part of the offerings of the teachings.  I draw up on the five elements and traditional Chinese medicine as well as the four directions and the teachings of the medicine wheel in these sunset sessions.

We have two fully equipped yoga shalas, one is a beautiful shaded rooftop shala and the other an indoor space.  No need to bring anything other than a good book and some walking shoes and a swimsuit.

We will connect to the history, origins, mythology and details of ceremony building an altar to lay our collective prayers to support our growth, cleanse and empower our vision and purpose and align with the teachings of the medicine wheel for the wellbeing of humanity and our evolution here on earth.
